Reminiscences of Sascha by his pupils.
Sascha Lasserson came to London from Russia in 1914 as a violin virtuoso on a concert tour and stayed on to become ? over a period of sixty years ? the greatest violin teacher in the country.
He was a product of the amazing class of the great Leopold Auer in St Petersburg and remained with Auer far longer than any other pupil, becoming his assistant, and in this country he was the embodiment of the traditions and
standards of that class.
This book, an affectionate and detailed composite portrait of him by his pupils, describes him not only as a teacher but as man and artist ? and as a guide, philosopher and friend to his pupils.
It offers insights into the history of violin teaching not only in Russia but also in this country together with fascinating portraits of some of his great friends and contemporaries at the great St Petersburg Conservatoire.
The book contains examples of music, marked with Sascha? fingering and bowing instructions; numerous half-tones and a rare photograph of Leopold Auer and his pupils among whom are violinists who became legendary world-wide.
